Depopulation is an issue that has blighted many rural communities across Europe, with extreme action being taken by some local authorities to combat it. One of which is the 1 Euro House Scheme, which was set up in Italy in 2017. It offers buyers around the world a chance to secure a traditional home in a small Italian town for the price of a pizza slice. With the scheme in full swing, Rachel Younger visited Mussomeli, in Sicily, to find out how it works. Is the promise too good to be true? Or could the dream of a rural home of your own actually be within touching distance?
